With its partners Maison Communautaire pour un Développement Solidaire (MCDS), Pazapas Belleville, Les Mamans de la Banane and Réseau Egalité Antidiscrimination Justice Interdisciplinaire (REAJI), (RE)Claim submitted observations to the experts of the United Nations Committee against Torture to inform its review of France, which will take place in Geneva on April 16 and 17, 2025.
Our submission focuses on: 1) Systemic discriminatory identity checks; 2) Repetitive discriminatory fines compounding the impacts of checks; 3) Recommendations.
The submission stresses that due to their systemic nature, their significant impacts and the lack of measures taken by the authorities to address them, these racial profiling practices constitute cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in violation of article 16 of the Convention against Torture.
